The Dark Side of the Web

I too have been the target of a phishing scam. I got a classic email saying I had received a inheritance from a dead relative, and to received the money I would need to give my bank info for the money transfer. Now I only use the links in the original welcome email that I received immediately after signing up to a website.

week 8

I like Positivity blog, the idea that you have a place to go for a pick-me-up, or to get positive tips on how to concure something is nice.

The Nikon tutorials on photography is also good. I just bought a new digital camera and this will aid me in making the most of my shots.

OCLS and Library 2.0

The Orange Seed is very important to OCLS. It allows the employees the make suggestion's about how to improve the library. I also like that others can leave feedback on the merits and how the idea can be accomplished.

Orlando Memory is a great also. It's like looking at a old photo album. Some things you remember, and some you don't, but love hearing the stories of how the picture came about anyway.

Web 2.0 Continued

Two web 2.0 applications that I like are Yelp, and Docstoc.

Yelp is a great tool to help you decide on what new restaurant to visit, or which stores to look out for. I really like that you can rate Public Services & Government, Health/medical, and all kinds of Businesses.

With Docstoc you can upload, or download all kinds of documents. They have Legal, Business, Tech and Educational. I'm sure a lot of OCLS member's would like to know about this.

Community Connection

I think OCLS is really living up to the mission statement. From Social to educational, the programs provided are great. As an entrepreneur myself I really like the "know your business" section.

open source Technology

Until a couple of years ago, technology was used to make OCLS more efficient. Technology is used in many capacities from handling our member’s records to claims returns. Right now we are using technology to create new software and exciting programs. We are moving in a good direction with our online classes. Because the classes are live instead of pre-recorded you can not only take classes, but interact with others as the class is going on. Our YouTube and MySpace pages are adding toward our goals as well. We have the capacity and innovative thinking to keep pace, and I see us expanding with more open source technology in the future.
